This guide is designed to aid in the quick installation of your TR-2100 data buffer. If you experience problems or need further information please see the TR-2100 Installation and Users Reference Manual on the accompanying CD, visit our Web site at databuffers.com or call 1-800-846-3263. Please refer to the TR-2100 Installation and Users Reference Manual in order to take full advantage of the complete range of features provided by the TR-2100. Follow the steps below to get your new TR-2100 up and running.
1. Apply Power: Connect the Power Adapter to the TR-2100 and then plug the Adapter into a suitable power outlet. The TR-2100 will go through a short Self Test procedure. During the test, the front panel lights will briefly flash red starting with the DHCP light. At the end of this test the RUN light and the FULL light should be green.
2. Connect Network Cable and/or PC: In order to configure and control the TR-2100, you must first decide how you will communicate with the unit; via network or a local PC.
a. Local PC: Attach the null modem cable from your PC COM port to the CONTROL Port connector on the TR-2100 back panel.
b. Network: Connect your 10Base-T or 100Base-T network interface to the TR-2100 Ethernet Port. Note: The TR-2100 features a 10Base-T Interface. When connecting to a 100Base-T interface, most router switches will auto sense to determine if the device is 100Base-T or 10Base-T, and then configure the network interface accordingly. If your router switch does not auto sense, the network interface port must be manually set to 10Base-T.
3. Install the TR-2100 Windows Configuration Program: Insert the accompanying CD into your CD/DVD drive. After a few seconds the installation menu shown in Figure 1 should appear, if Autorun is enabled. If the installation menu does not appear automatically, run AutoRun.exe from the CD-ROM drive (choose Start > Run > D:\ AutoRun.exe, where D: is the CD-ROM drive containing the TR-2100 CD. Click on ‘Setup TR-2100 Windows Configuration Program’ to install the program.

4. Run the TR-2100 Windows Configuration Program: After this program is installed from the accompanying CD, there will be a Desktop and a Start Menu link to it. Start the program. If the TR-2100 is connected to COM1 the screen shown in Figure 2 will be seen. If you have not used COM1, either select the correct COM port or click the ‘Find Me’ button. If the TR-2100 is not connected to the PC, go to the next section ‘Configuring Without a Serial Port Connection’.
Figure 2 - TR-2100 Windows Configuration Program
When connected to a PC COM port, the TR-2100 Windows Configuration Program allows you to directly configure every aspect of the TR-2100 and save the settings in a text file. Please see the TR-2100 Installation and Users Reference Manual for full details.
1. Configuring Without a Serial Port Connection: The TR-2100 Windows Configuration Program will allow you to connect to a TR-2100 without using a serial port. This is done through the Ethernet connection to the TR-2100’s built in WEB Server. You do not need to know what IP address is assigned to either the PC or the TR-2100. The only requirement is that both the PC and the TR-2100 are connected to the same local Ethernet network.
Figure 3 - Network Find
Click the ‘Network Find’ button near the lower right corner of the TR-2100 Windows Configuration Program screen. This will enable a screen called ‘Network Finder’. Click on the ‘Find Us!’ button. This will present a page of detailed information about every TR-2100 connected to your local network. If your TR-2100 has an IP address on the same subnet as your PC, the button labeled ‘Connect’ will be enabled. Clicking this will open your WEB Browser and allow you to configure the TR-2100. The factory default user name is ‘AAA’ and the password is ‘aaa’. If the PC and TR-2100 are not on the same subnet you can use the area at the bottom of the screen shown below to make a connection.

Connection with different Networks
Enter a number 1-254 to complete the IP address and click the ‘Connect Using…’ button. The IP address will be checked to make sure it is not already in use or assigned before it is used. If the IP address is available for use, your WEB Browser will open and allow you to configure the TR-2100.
2. Configuring Without the TR-2100 Windows Configuration Program: The TR-2100 includes a default IP Address and Subnet Mask. The address is shown on the label on the under side. The Mask is 255.255.0.0. The address is in the Automatic Private IP Addressing (APIPA) range from 169.254.0.0 to 169.254.255.255. To use this you must start your PC with the Ethernet cable disconnected and without an assigned IP address. This will cause your PC to use an address in the APIPA range. You can now open your WEB Browser and enter either the TR-2100’s IP address or the name shown directly below the serial number on the label.
